Blizzard has unveiled the first full trailer for Overwatch 2 Season 12: New Frontiers, which showcases the debut of a new support hero, Juno, alongside a Mythic skin for Reaper and hints of a possible World of Warcraft crossover.
The two-and-a-half-minute trailer highlights the upcoming season’s ancient Egypt theme and introduces a variety of new skins available through the Battle Pass and the in-game shop. Among the featured cosmetics are new looks for Mercy, Doomfist, Sigma, Illari, and others, including a Dorothy/Tin Man skin for Ashe and a sleek, golden outfit for Echo. The spotlight, however, is on Juno, a new hero making her full debut after a weekend trial last month. Overwatch 2 Season 12 launches on August 20.
Reaper is set to receive the Mythic skin for this season, donning an Anubis-themed outfit that offers three unique styles, along with special voice lines and animations. This marks the second consecutive season where a Damage Hero gets the Mythic skin, but Blizzard isn’t done revealing more cosmetics for Season 12. The trailer hints at a large, blue broadsword resembling Frostmourne, the iconic weapon of the Lich King from World of Warcraft. This tease suggests that a World of Warcraft collaboration may be on the horizon, following last season’s Transformers crossover. The sword’s design hints that Reinhardt might once again receive a new skin.
The upcoming season will also introduce a new game mode called Clash. Described by Blizzard as an “adrenaline-pumping” experience, Clash pits teams against each other in a fierce battle to control multiple capture points. This fast-paced mode will launch with two new maps: Temple of Anubis and Hanaoka. Fans of the original Overwatch might recognize these locations, as Temple of Anubis shares its name with the game’s first Assault map, and Hanaoka draws inspiration from the beloved Hanamura. However, rather than simply bringing back these maps, Blizzard has reimagined them for the Clash mode.
Season 12: New Frontiers will also bring balance updates, including health reductions for some Damage and Support Heroes, along with tweaks for Lifeweaver. New Hero Mastery Missions for Zarya and Pharah are also on the way, and the 2024 Anniversary Event is set to kick off soon. As part of its ongoing efforts to refine Competitive mode, Blizzard plans to introduce a special Xbox promotion for Game Pass subscribers starting September 17. This promotion will include 30 Mythic prisms and a selection of fan-favorite skins, such as Cardboard Reinhardt, Turtleship D.Va, Cyberdragon Hanzo, Street Runner Genji, Bee Mercy, and Cleric Lifeweaver. Blizzard encourages players to link their Battle.net accounts for more rewards in the future.
Overwatch 2 Season 12 is poised to elevate the team-based shooter to new levels as Blizzard continues its mission to re-engage the player base with significant updates. This includes plans to test a return to 6v6 gameplay without negatively affecting queue times or on-screen clutter. As the game evolves, fans can expect more changes designed to enhance the overall experience.
